Ancient Star Map
Or “Blackbird and Redshank cross paths somewhere near the Milky Way” 2006
On loan to the Needham Research Institute Cambridge
This large piece (120 cm x 120 cm) is the result of my interest in astronomy and in particular, ancient perceptions of the universe. Inspired by an original drawing on paper by 17th Century Korean and Franciscan monks, the map shows the universe as drawn by the Chinese over 3,000 years ago. The Korean monks and Franciscans worked together to produce the drawing which also incorporates western zodiak signs.
My personal addition within the glass panel, is the footprint tracks of the Redshank bird and the Blackbird, who cross paths somewhere near the Milky Way!

I did extensive research on this subject, including studying from ancient Chinese writing about how the Universe was described, as well as gathering information on modern astronomy from Cambridge Astronomy department.
My link to tracks (birds, animals, people, stars and planets) follows a theme within my practice.
The Vessel Series
This series of work represents a departure into a more sculptural approach to glass within the window space. The theme within this work reflects my life long interest in spiritual paths and healing.
